Across the globe, centuries of unsustainable activities have damaged the aquatic, marine, and terrestrial environments that underpin our economies and societies. SER is dedicated to reversing this degradation and restoring the earth for the benefit of both humans and nature.
Their Mission
SER advances the science, practice and policy of ecological restoration to sustain biodiversity, improve resilience in a changing climate, and re-establish an ecologically healthy relationship between nature and culture.
Their Vision
Ecological restoration becomes a fundamental component of conservation and sustainable development programs throughout the world by virtue of its inherent capacity to provide people with the opportunity to not only repair ecological damage, but also improve the human condition.

Galiano Conservancy Association (GCA) operates out of the Millard Learning Centre, a 144 hectare property on the midwest coast of Galiano Island. Their mission is to "protect, steward and restore Galiano Island Ecosystems by creating a network of natural areas where a healthy environment, learning and a love of nature flourish." For 30 years, GCA has helped residents restore properties, create new initiatives for restoration, collaborate with Indigenous peoples and educate students around the lower mainland on ecological sciences, sustainable farming and plant propagation - to name a few. GCA has been an incredible partner of the Restoration of Natural Systems program at UVic, providing students with numerous opportunities to engage in hands-on learning. The team is comprised of an executive committee, restoration coordinators, seasonal technicians, volunteers and the important input of community members.
The Galiano Conservancy Association has declared their commitment to the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration by adopting the logo and creating events for the initiative. We are looking forward to continuing to work and learn with GCA in 2022!

After decades of living very sustainably at home, growing her own food, composting, collecting rain water, making all her own soaps and cosmetics from natural ingredients, participating in beach clean ups and other volunteer activities on her days off only to return to a corporate workplace that produced massive amounts of trash, Leanne Gallagher Allen decided she wanted to be more than just a “drop in the bucket” when it came to positively impacting the future of our environment. She realized that the best way to have a greater impact was to make it as easy and affordable as possible for other people in her community to live more sustainably too.
The Ecological Restoration Club (ERC) is a student-led club at the University of Victoria. Since 2011, students have been collaborating within the club to build capacity of students to restore ecosystems by offering opportunities to engage in regional stewardship initiatives, skill development workshops, and collaborating on club projects. We are committed to being a welcoming and accessible group to all interested in participating.
The club is comprised of three committees, a work-study student, directors-at-large, and our volunteer community. Together we are currently working on several projects; follow the link to learn more!

Did you know 50% of the garbage in major Canadian cities are single-use cups? And that Victorians are responsible for an average of 13,000 discarded single-use cups per day?
Caroline & Nancy had an idea in 2018 to start a reusable service with coffee cups and containers in our lovely city, Victoria BC. We had the opportunity to participate in Synergy Sustainability’s Project Zero Incubator Program in 2019 and start our venture. We want people to have a green and convenient option when they order to-go drinks or food.
